For this exhibition, Carole Fraresso has made a selection of artefacts from the collection of the Larco Museum in Lima , accompanied by pieces from other European collections, including previously unpublished objects from the Musée des Jacobins in Auch .
From May 6 to November 26, 2017
For the Incas, gold was considered "the sweat of the sun", while the Spaniards saw it only as a material value. The myth of Inca gold has its origins in the divide between these two value systems. With 200 objects, the exhibition presents the beliefs of the fascinating pre-Inca and Inca civilizations that developed for 3,000 years in ancient Peru, until their encounter with European culture in the 16th century.
The majority of the exhibited pieces come from the Museo Larco in Lima, which holds the world's largest private collection of Peruvian pre-Columbian Art. In addition to the Inca and pre-Inca civilizations, the exhibition will focus on Francisco Pizarro's conquest of South America, and will also feature pieces from excellent museums and collections in Europe.
